John Langton (Canadian politician)

John Langton (April 7, 1808 – March 19, 1894) was Canada's first Auditor General.

He was born in Ormskirk, Lancashire, England in 1808 and studied at Trinity College, Cambridge.

After Canadian Confederation in 1867, Langton was appointed the head of the federal Board of Audit.

In 1870, he was named Deputy Minister of Finance and Secretary to the Treasury Board, while maintaining his role as Auditor General.
