John William O'Malley SJ (June 11, 1927 – September 11, 2022)[1] was an American academic, Catholic historian, and Jesuit priest.

At age 18, he joined the Society of Jesus, and later earned a PhD in history from Harvard University.

He died at age 95 on September 11, 2022, and is buried in the Jesuit Cemetery on the campus of Georgetown University.

O'Malley has received numerous awards in the field of Catholic history, religious culture, and theology.
