After Hurricane Katrina, LaFonta also served on the House Special Committee on Disaster Planning, Crisis Management, Recovery and Long-Term Revitalization.

LaFonta, represented District 96 which include the historic neighborhoods of Faubourg, Marigny, Treme and Gentilly.
