It is the main municipal, administrative and commercial center of Kaberamaido District and is the location of the headquarters for the district.
Kaberamaido is located approximately 163 kilometres (101 mi) by road, northwest of Mbale, the largest city in Eastern Uganda.

In 2010, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), estimated the population of the town at about 3,200.
In 2011, UBOS estimated the mid-year population of Kaberamaido at 3,400.
