Katy Hamman-Stricker Library

[1] It consists of a museum as well as a public library and community center and was the first chapter house built by the American Woman's League in the state.

[4] Katy Hamman-Stricker led a movement to erect a League of Woman's meeting house in Calvert, Texas.

She was the daughter of Confederate General William H. Hamman who turned his attention after the American Civil War to land and railroad speculation.

They built a two-storey Victorian home at 503 Pin Oak, Calvert in 1900 which became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1973.

[9] As part of its "We the People" initiative, the National Endowment for the Humanities awarded the custodians a $14,656 federal grant to carry out repairs.
