It is part of the 1.2 hectares (3 acres) of land donated by Wallace Bickley for a school for the children of the Canning in 1863.
In 1865 a rammed earth building with shingle roof was constructed by convicts.
[2] The first meeting of the Canning Roads Board met in the school room in 1870.
Members were A church, St Michael and All Angels, was built on a site next to the school and served the district until the end of the century.
Over 200 people were buried at the cemetery during its use, however few grave stones remain.
