Historical records show that the city has various names such as Stambhadri,[9] Kambamettu,[10] Khammammettu,[11] Kama Mett,[11] Gambambumettu, Kambamu Mettu, Khammam.
Because of the presence of Lord Narasimhaswami temple in Khammam, the city was named Sthambadri earlier.
