[5][6] A Commonwealth Scholarship offered him the opportunity to apply for a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Industrial and Business Studies from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.

[7] Kofi Sarpong also holds a Master of Arts in Ministry from the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon.

[6] He took up appointment at the International Cocoa Organization, London in 1998 and served as the Head of Administration and Financial Services Division in 2001.

[3][5][6] In 2004, the then President of Ghana, John Kufuor, appointed Sarpong as the Deputy managing director of the Tema Oil Refinery.

[3] After Asante Kotoko, Sarpong took up the position of Chief executive of The Global Haulage Group, a Ghanaian cocoa buying and exporting company.

In February 2017, President Nana Akufo-Addo, appointed Sarpong as Acting chief executive officer of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation.
