It was founded in 1991 as Busan (Pusan) Science High School (BSA).
On December 18, 1989, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the Busan Science Academy, and Chang-sik Shin was appointed as its first principal on March 1, 1991.
That same day, the Ministry of Education appointed BSA as a 'for-researching' school until February 28, 1993.
On March 1, 1997, the Ministry of Education appointed BSA as a model school.
