[3] In 2013, Beuchat gave Penn State University a gift of $1 million to create an endowed chair in his name for a Professorship in Food Microbiology.
[5][6][4] He graduated from Penn State University in 1965 with an undergraduate degree from the College of Agricultural Sciences.
He attributes his education at Penn State as inspiring him to pursue a career as a food science researcher.
In 2001 he received the Partners in Public Health Award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for his work on Salmonella outbreaks associated with raw tomatoes.
