He began his journey on 6 March 2023 from the Terry Fox memorial in St. John's, NL and completed his 7,000-kilometre, 160-day trek on 12 August in Port Coquitlam, BC.

Fonyo began his Journey for Lives run on 31 March 1984 at age 18 and completed it 425 days later on 29 May 1985, covering 7,924 km (4,924 mi).
