Little Criminals (film)

Little Criminals is a 1996 Canadian crime drama television film directed by Stephen Surjik, written by Dennis Foon, and starring Brendan Fletcher and Myles Ferguson.

Eleven-year-old Des and his friends engage in a variety of illegal activities including vandalism, stealing, lighting fires, mugging people and using drugs.

Des, who lives in squalor, comes home to find a police officer and a social worker in the kitchen, talking to his mother about his behavior in the wake of his recent arrest, which she doesn't take seriously.

In the centre he meets Rita, a psychologist who tries to understand Des's motivations, and over time gets some positive results on his behaviour.

Des, who is still on the run because of his escape from the assessment centre, goes to his home where he sees his mother passed out and intoxicated in the bedroom with a boyfriend, oblivious to his presence.
