Luciano Rezende (politician)

Luciano Santos Rezende (born 22 March 1962) is a Brazilian doctor, former athlete, and politician.

[1] During his time as an athlete, he was a rowing champion in Brazil and at the South American championship in Uruguay in 1979.

In 2012, he again ran for mayor, this time facing former mayor Luiz Paulo Vellozo (PSDB) and former minister and federal deputy Iriny Lopes [pt] (PT).

Defying previous polling, which indicated Vellozo as the favorite, Rezende came in first place in the first round, with 39% of the votes.

[2] In 2016, Rezende was re-elected mayor with 51% of the vote, defeating state deputy Amaro Neto (SD).
