Its use was not limited to the military, however, as its 35,000-square-foot (3,300 m2) main arena (originally intended for drill exercises) was used for events of widely varying natures—ranging from professional basketball to auto shows—for most of the early to mid-20th century.

At the Armory, the team could charge less for parking and provide fans with better sight lines and a closer view of the action.
