The racial makeup of the township was 84.62% White, 9.14% African American, 2.13% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.12% from other races, and 2.50% from two or more races.

There were 1,188 households, out of which 28.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.8% were married couples living together, 6.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% were non-families.
