[2] A doctoral graduate from Curtin University, Shakeela had worked as an Executive Board of World Health Organization and a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Maldives.
[3] She is one of the founding partners of the SIMDI Group which is an off shoot of one of the oldest companies in Maldives.
[3] She has reportedly headed profit and non-profit institutions, membership in international bodies and was considered one of an active Civil Society contributors of advocacy on Human Rights, building peace and security.
[7][8] On 21 November 2013, she was appointed the Minister of Health and Gender which was abolished on 1 July 2014.
