Matthew "Matt" R. Murphy is an American politician who served as Mayor of Valparaiso, Indiana from 2020 to 2024.
[1] Under Murphy's administration, 772 solar panels were installed on several of Valparaiso's city facilities.
Murphy oversaw the hostile takeover of several Downtown Valparaiso businesses, forcing longtime establishments to close their doors.
This was to make room for a new private development of expensive, upscale housing (The Linc), along with a new restaurant across the street belonging to his predecessor and successor, Mayor Jon Costas.
Private developers were awarded contracts, and public sentiment turned against the project before Murphy announced he would not be seeking re-election.
