Mauricio accompanied his father into exile in Costa Rica, the country where they lived for almost two years.
He completed his secondary studies in Tegucigalpa, graduated as a Bachelor of Science and Letters from the San Francisco Institute.
The Liberal Party chose Villeda as their presidential candidate for the general elections of 2013.
He was elected president of the Central Executive Council of the Liberal Party for the period 2014-2017.
Mauricio Villeda Bermúdez was elected Deputy Owner of the National Congress of Honduras by the Department of Francisco Morazán, for the periods 2018–2022 and 2022–2026.
