McNair Evans

McNair Evans (born 1979) is an American photographer living and working in San Francisco, California, and Laurinburg, North Carolina.

[1] His work presents personal, sometimes autobiographical, subject matter in unconventional narrative form, and has been recognized for its literary character.

[2] Evans grew up in the farming town of Laurinburg, North Carolina, and became interested in photography while studying cultural anthropology at Davidson College.

Evans is a John Gutmann Foundation Fellow,[3] artist in residence at The Rayko Photo Center, San Francisco,[4] and the recipient of the 2013 Paul Conlan Prize.

[5] His photographs are held in major public and private collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and his work has been featured in exhibition settings and editorial publications including Harper's Magazine, The New Yorker,[6] The Wall Street Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, and Financial Times, as well as on the cover of William Faulkner's novel, Flags in the Dust.
