Medak district is located in the western region of the Indian state of Telangana.
Traces of Neolithic and Megalithic culture was found at Edithanur and Wargal[2] village hillocks in the district.
Qutub Shahis named it as Gulshanabad which means '"city of gardens'" due to its luscious greenery.
[5] In 2006 the Indian government named Medak one of the country's 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640).
Medak district has a sex ratio of 1027 females per 1000 males and a literacy rate of 56.12%.
