From November 2012 through July 2017, he served as the chairman of the Finance Board of the Catholic Diocese of Tyler, Texas, under Bishop Joseph Strickland.
In support of the Church in East Texas, he was founder of the Michael and Suzann Mahfood Scholarship,[16] which assists in the advancement of Catholic education.
