He represented the Mangalore City North seat as a member of the Indian National Congress party in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 2013 to 2018.

Farooq was made a candidate of the Janata Dal (Secular) party for the Rajya Sabha elections.

However, Bava said that it was his brother's decision and he has his own priorities and opinion and had not promoted any family member to join any other party.
