Mount Hope Cemetery (San Diego)

It is believed to be named for its rolling hills and distant bay views; the community of Mount Hope adopted the name as well.

Founded in 1869 on what was then the outskirts of New Town, Mount Hope now covers approximately 115 acres (0.47 km2).

Its design is an example of a rural cemetery, in architecture, art and landscaping.

[1] The city of San Diego manages and maintains it, providing perpetual care to all burial sites.

The rolling hills contain monuments to some of the city's most notable former residents.
