Nederhorst den Berg

Nederhorst den Berg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈneːdərɦɔrz dɛm ˈbɛr(ə)x]) is a village in the province of North Holland, Netherlands.

[3] The village was first mentioned in 1326 as "opten berch", and means "lower height with growth".

Neder (lower) could have been added to distinguish from the former castle Hoogerhorst aan de Eem.

[4] Nederhorst den Berg is a peat excavation settlement from the Early Middle Ages.

[5] In the 13th century, Nederhorst den Berg Castle was built with octagon corner towers and surrounded by a moat.
