Led by Brother Mohammed Fazal (administrator), NZMA-Kelston Branch was established and an interim committee appointed.

Also in 1979 the NZMA was a founding constituent member of the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ), the national Muslim organisation.
