Norton, Vermont

Norton is a town in Essex County, Vermont, United States.

From 1970 until 1994, Norton was the location of the Earth Peoples Park, a "liberated" 592-acre (240 ha) piece of land that was open to anyone who wanted to live there, free of charge.

Vermont Route 114 crosses the center of the town from Norton Pond in the south to the village of Norton in the north next to the Canada–US border, at which point the highway turns east toward Averill and Canaan, Vermont.

According to the 2000 Census, 26.9% of the households in Norton speak French at home, reflecting the town's location at the Québec border.
