The town of Nueva Santa Rosa is located 70 miles (110 km) from Guatemala City and has a population of 13,535 (2018 census).
On May 22, 1917, during the presidency of Manuel Estrada Cabrera (1898-1920), it was designated as a municipality by a government accord.
History tells us that before becoming a municipality it was given the name VILLAGE OF THE EASTERN BORDERS by its neighbors but is currently known as Nueva Santa Rosa.
[4] The language consists of four distinct classes and was supposedly only spoken in the department of Santa Rosa.
[5] Today there are indigenous peoples who identify as Xinca but do not have a descriptive source of the ancient Xincan language.
