Aftabeh

Aftabeh (/ɑːftɑːˈbɛ/) or Abtabeh (/ɑːbtɑːˈbɛ/), also called Abdasta (/ɑːbdæstə/), is a pitcher made out of clay, copper, brass, or plastic, traditionally used for purposes of hand washing, cleansing, and ablution.

[3] Aftabehs serve a similar function to other traditional cleansing vessels, such as the lota used in parts of South Asia.

Many finely crafted aftabehs, particularly those made from brass and copper, have become collectible pieces, valued for their intricate designs and cultural significance.

Using locally sourced plastic aftabehs, he created colorful chandeliers that reinterpreted the traditional object as a contemporary art piece.

This practice has become associated with a well-known Persian proverb: This saying describes situations where there is an elaborate display of formality or grandeur, but lacking in actual substance or meaningful outcome.
