Born in Arta, she studied radiology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

She ran for Parliament in the 2000 and 2004 elections as an independent, but failed to win a seat.

She then ran for Mayor of Arta as a member of an unaffiliated citizens group in 2006 and 2010, losing both elections.

Two years later, she again ran for Parliament, this time as a member of the Syriza party, and won.

She finished with 24.6% of the vote, the highest of any Syriza-backed candidate in local elections, but lost to Alexandros Kachrimanis's 50.8%.
