The district stretches from Portland's western suburbs and exurbs, to parts of the Oregon coast.

The district includes the principal cities of Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Tigard, all located in the Portland metropolitan area.

Geographically, the district is located in the northwest corner of Oregon.

Bonamici won a special election to replace David Wu, who resigned in the wake of accusations of sexual misconduct.

The winner of the election, Suzanne Bonamici, served the remainder of Wu's two-year term.
