Oren Root Jr. (May 18, 1838 – August 27, 1907) was an American Presbyterian minister and professor of mathematics and natural sciences at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York and professor of English at the University of Missouri.
He was one of the founders of the Mystic Order of Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm, an appendant body in Freemasonry.
He studied first at the Clinton Grammar School, then graduated from Hamilton in 1856.

He took up work at Hamilton College in 1880 where he taught natural sciences and mathematics for the last 27 years of his life.
