[1][2][3][4] An 1864 Timetable of the BB&CIR's first passenger train serviice between Grant Rd and Ahmedabad advertised in the Bombay Gazette mentions the station as 'Palghur'.
However, one source suggests that Palghar railway station was opened in the year 1893.
The case might be similar to that of Sion Railway station, which although was a halt for the first trains of the GIP Railway when it started services from Bombay to Tannah (Thane) in 1853, it received an official station much later after 1872.
[5] The presence of the station, and due to the plague epidemic of the 1890s, caused the rich from the nearby Mahim-Kelwa village, to settle in the village, aiding in the locality's growth.
