[1] Pedro Vilca Apaza District was created on March 17, 1962.
One of the highest mountains of the district is Wayruruni at approximately 4,600 m (15,100 ft).

Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (89.53%) learnt to speak in childhood, 4.32% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).
