Phymata crassipes is a species of assassin and thread-legged bugs belonging to the family Reduviidae, subfamily Phymatinae.
[3][4] These bugs inhabit dry biotopes with sufficient sun exposure, especially calcareous grasslands, rocky heaths, south-facing slopes or forest edges.
[5] This species is rather similar to Phymata monstrosa, present in South West Europe, that shows small bumps on the femora of the median and hind legs.
The overwintering bugs can be found and mate in early spring and the females lay their eggs on plant stems.
They usually wait motionless on flowers for their preys, which consist of various insects, other arthropods and spider species.
