Playfair is a lunar impact crater that is located in the rugged southern highlands on the near side of the Moon.
It was named after the Scottish geologist and mathematician John Playfair.
This crater is oval in shape, being slightly wider along the east–west axis.
The interior floor is level and nearly featureless, with the only feature of the minor interest being a pair of tiny craterlets lying just to the east of the midpoint.
[2] By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater midpoint that is closest to Playfair.
