Pollnaknockaun Wood

Pollnaknockaun Wood Nature Reserve (Irish: Anaclann Dúlra Choill Pholl na gCnocán)[1] is a national nature reserve and Special Area of Conservation of approximately 96 acres (0.39 km2) located near Woodford, County Galway, Ireland.

It is managed by the Irish National Parks & Wildlife Service.

Pollnaknockaun Wood was legally protected as a national nature reserve by the Irish government in 1983.

[3][4] Pollnaknockaun Wood is a semi-natural woodland, which along with Derrycrag and Rosturra Wood, represent fragments of the previously extensive oak and ash forests which dominated the local landscape for hundreds of years.

Parts of the wood were felled in the 1930s and 1940s and replanted with commercial conifers.
