Prebold

Prebold (pronounced [ˈpɾeːbɔlt]) is a settlement in central Slovenia.

The name was changed on the basis of the 1948 Law on Names of Settlements and Designations of Squares, Streets, and Buildings as part of efforts by Slovenia's postwar communist government to remove religious elements from toponyms.

[3][4][5] At the time, a proposal was also made for the settlement to be renamed Šlandrovo (after the Slovenian communist Slavko Šlander), but it was not carried through.

The name Sveti Pavel is derived from the church in the settlement, and the name Prebold is believed to be derived from German Prewald, in turn borrowed from Slovene preval 'mountain pass'.

[8] The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to Saint Paul and belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Celje.
