She is married to Pankaj Saran,[12] who also belonged to the Indian Foreign Service[1] and has served as Deputy National Security Adviser of India.

She has served in Indian missions at Moscow, Dhaka, Cairo, Geneva, Toronto and Vietnam.

[15] Saran was the Consul General of India at Toronto and the Indian Ambassador to Vietnam.

[15] She served as the Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, India from March 2016 to 30 September 2018.
