The school's exterior was designed to harmonize with the environment, while the interior was made to accommodate 3,500 students in fifty regular classrooms and other specialized laboratories and working rooms.
[2] The main reasons for Prospect Heights High school's closure were overcrowding and consistently low performance grades received from the New York City Department of Education.
International High School at Prospect Heights opened in 2004 to address the needs of recent immigrant students by teaching them fluency in reading, writing and speaking.
