[1] In 1997, while working on his Ph.D. degree, Williams completed a dissertation titled "Fast Intracavity Temporal Dynamics of an Erbium Doped Fiber Ring Laser", in which he won the Dissertation of the Year award from the National Society of Black Physicists.
[2][4] At Jackson State, Williams served as Chair of the Department of Physics, Atmospheric Sciences and Geoscience where he taught and mentored many African American undergraduate students.
[3] Currently at Howard University since 2014, Williams holds the position of Chair and Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
[5] Presently, his research interests encompass nanomaterials, photonics, and renewable energy with Li-ion batteries.
He served as President of the National Society of Black Physicists and was an elected member of the Governing Board of the American Institute of Physics (AIP).
