Their mission was to fight the proposed high-voltage power line route scheduled to run from the Imperial Valley to San Diego County through Anza Borrego State Park, and educate on alternative energy choices.
[2] “We strongly believe that energy does not have to be imported over dangerous high voltage transmission lines and that renewable energy should be produced locally, for local consumption,” stated festival organizer Carolyn Morrow, who hosted the event on her 160-acre (0.65 km2) ranch.
[6] It was later reported that no funds from the festival were given to the non-profit organizations opposing the renewable energy transmission project.
[7] The festival did not achieve its goal, and in 2011 construction began on the power line between Lake Henshaw & Santa Ysabel.
