[5][6] The group is the successor to the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe in the European Committee of the Regions (ALDE-CoR) which existed from 2004 to 2019,[7][8] which in turn succeeded the ELDR-CoR group which had existed since 1998.
In 2004 the group was renamed to the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party (ALDE) reflecting a similar change in the group in the European Parliament and incorporating new members along with the change.
He served as president until the end of the European Committee of the Regions mandate (2020).
[13][14] In 2020 February, François Decoster was elected new President of Renew Europe CoR.
Decoster, currently Mayor of Saint-Omer, France, and since August 2019 head of cabinet of the French State Secretary for Diplomacy, Trade, Tourism & Development, is no stranger to the European Committee of the Regions and European politics.
