The artificial lake was created in 1930 by the construction of the Rapide-Blanc Generating Station on Saint-Maurice River.
Following the erection of the dam Rapide-Blanc Generating Station, the shrug of waters of the Saint-Maurice River in the adjacent territory has created the shape of the reservoir.
At that point, the river widens two kilometers and forms a "T", receiving waters from the south-west arm of the reservoir.
There the river branches south to travel 4.75 km before reaching the Rapide-Blanc Generating Station.
Between the hamlets of MacTavish and Windigo, the path of the Canadian National Railway crossing over 5.75 km (on a pier in the north-west direction towards the south-east) the “Reservoir Blanc” (near the west bank), where the river forms a "T", linking arms northeast and southeast.
