It is the seat of the Municipality of Ribnica na Pohorju.
[2] Ribnica was attested in written sources in 1266 as Reyvinich (and as Reivinich and Reyvenz in 1283, and Reiffnik in 1319).
[4] The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew and belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Maribor.
