Nurse was selected 23rd overall in the third round by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.
In 1993, the Tiger-Cats presented Nurse with the Charlotte Simmons Humanitarian Awarded for his donation of time and energy to the betterment of the local Hamilton community.
[4] His son, Darnell Nurse, was selected in the First round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers.
[5] His daughter, Kia Nurse, who played basketball collegiately for the Connecticut Huskies, plays professionally for the Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA and won a gold medal at the 2015 Pan American Games with the Canadian women's national team.
