He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh Medical School where his teachers included John William Turner the professor of surgery.
[1] He moved to 4 Forres Street, an affluent address in the Moray Estate in western Edinburgh.
[2] In 1838 Omond was elected a member of the Harveian Society of Edinburgh and served as one of its secretaries from 1849 to 1871.
[3] In 1840 he was elected a member of the Aesculapian Club and served as Honorary Secretary from 1842 to 1877.
He is buried in St Cuthberts Churchyard at the west end of Princes Street Gardens, and close to his home at Charlotte Square.
