The song was released as a digital download on 11 January 2019 through Low Wood as the lead single from his début studio album Kingdom.

On 6 December 2018, Bilal Hassani was confirmed as one of the 18 participants in Destination Eurovision 2019 with the song "Roi".

[4] As France is a member of the "Big Five", the song automatically advanced to the final, held on 18 May 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Once he's applied his makeup and popped on his trademark blonde bob, he takes to the stage and belts out "Roi".
