Brigadier General (retired) Russell D. Howard is an American veteran Special Forces officer, academic, tutor, writer and counter-terrorism strategist.
Howard is adjunct professor and director[1] of the Monterey Terrorism Research and Education Program (MonTREP) at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies.
[2] Howard was head of the Department of Social Sciences and the founding director of the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point.
Previously, Howard was commander of 3d Battalion, 1st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
[3] Presently, Howard is a senior fellow at Joint Special Operations University and an adjunct professor at The Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.
