The building is situated along Bulgersteyn, a street, and is part of a city block with shops among other things.
HBM was responsible for the first floor of the building and the rest of the surrounding city block.
[2][6] Because of the small construction site, tunnel forms were used a lot, since they don't require much work with a crane.
[7] After the building was finished, on 23 November 2010, the Dutch Dienst Nationale Recherche discovered a cocaine workshop in the Schielandtoren, where the drug was cut.
The concrete outside wall is surrounded by a facade, that is made out of red and red-brown bricks, with masonry.
[3][6][7] In addition, the facade is characterized by metal extensions with a triangular base, that give the building its sharp edges.
[11] The machine room of the elevator and the installation for the window cleaners are located on top of the roof.
