The South Korean government's Ministry of Education and Human Resources partly supervises management of the hospital.
In 1910, when Imperial Japan colonized Korea, its name changed to Viceroyalty Hospital of Chosun (조선총독부의원).
When Imperial Japan surrendered to the United States in 1945, Korea was liberated from Japanese rule.
After liberation, the government of the Republic of Korea installed Seoul National University's School of Medicine on the site of the Viceroyalty Hospital.
However, the government handed off the hospital's ownership by forming SNUH P.C., an independent professional corporation.
